Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin metricus , -ian suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin metricus prosodist, expert in metre (use as noun of metricus metric adj.1) + -ian suffix; compare -ician suffix. With sense 2 compare French métricien (1832).
Now rare.
