单词 microburin
释义

microburinn.

Brit. /ˌmʌɪkrəʊˈbjʊərɪn/, U.S. /ˌmaɪkroʊˈbjʊr(ə)n/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French microburin.
Etymology: < French microburin (1911 Bourlon, in Revue anthropologique July 270) < micro- micro- comb. form + burin burin n.The term arises from the assumption that the stone fragments in question were themselves small engraving tools, and not merely the waste product of true burins, the shape of which they often resembled. This question was long disputed, and was not completely settled at the time of the earliest English citations below.
Archaeology.
A fragment of stone remaining after a blade has been notched and its end snapped off, this being a characteristic waste product in the manufacture of microliths; (occasionally in early use) a small fragment of this nature used as a tool rather than as waste material.
