Etymology: Partly < post-classical Latin absconsion-, absconsio refuge (Vulgate), act of concealing, act of concealing oneself (6th cent.), and partly < its elements classical Latin abscons-, alternative past participial stem (see absconce v.1) of abscondere abscond v. + -ion suffix1. Compare later absconding n. and adj. at abscond v. Derivatives, abscondment n.
