单词 mimiambic
释义

mimiambicadj.n.

Forms: 1700s mimiiambick, 1800s mimiambic.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin mīmiambī , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin mīmiambī (see mimiambus n.) + -ic suffix, after iambic adj.The pronunciations given in N.E.D. (1906) ((məi·-, mi·miæmbik) /ˈmaɪ-/ /ˈmɪmɪæmbɪk/), indicating stress on the first syllable, may represent a typographical error: analogy with the pronunciations given s.v. mimiambi (see mimiambus n.), and the normal stress patterns of Latinate words in English, would typically suggest primary stress on the penultimate syllable.
Classical Prosody. Obsolete. rare.
