Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Old French mespaier, mespaer (13th cent.; also in Old French in forms mespaiier , mespayer ) < mes- mis- prefix2 + paier pay v.1 In sense 2 probably independently < mis- prefix1 + pay v.1
1. transitive. To displease, dissatisfy; to anger, irritate. Obsolete.
