Etymology: < classical Latin minōrāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of minōrāre to make less (attested in classical Latin only in past participle; finite forms are found in post-classical Latin from Tertullian (2nd–3rd cent.), Vetus Latina) < minōr- , minor minor adj. Compare Middle French, French minorer (late fifteenth cent. or earlier; rare before 20th cent.). Compare earlier minorate adj.
Now archaic and rare.
