单词 misy
释义

misyn.

Brit. /ˈmɪsi/, U.S. /ˈmɪsi/
Forms: 1500s mysi, 1500s mysis (rare), 1500s myssi, 1500s– misy, 1600s missy, 1600s mysy.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin misy.
Etymology: < classical Latin misy a kind of metallic mineral (in Pliny, probably denoting chalcopyrite, and in medical authors), a kind of truffle or fungus (in Pliny) < ancient Greek μίσυ a mineral with medical properties (in Hellenistic Greek also in sense ‘a kind of truffle or fungus’: compare mison n.). Compare Italian misi (now historical) a yellow metallic mineral (15th cent., after Pliny), a kind of truffle (1802), Middle French, French misy (now historical) ferrous sulphate (16th cent.), Middle French mysi a kind of truffle (1562 in Du Pinet's translation of Pliny: compare quot. 1601 at sense 2).The rare form mysis is perhaps after forms of the Latin genitive singular misys, misyis.
Now historical.
1. A yellow mineral, probably copiapite or any of several other iron or copper sulphates or sulphides. Now historical.
