单词 monitorial
释义

monitorialadj.

Brit. /ˌmɒnᵻˈtɔːrɪəl/, U.S. /ˌmɑnəˈtɔriəl/
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: French monitorial ; Latin monitorialis , monitōrius ; -al suffix1.
Etymology: In sense 1a, probably partly < French monitorial (1596 in Middle French in lettres monitoriales , plural), and partly < its probable etymon post-classical Latin monitorialis (16th cent. in British sources in litterae monitoriales , plural) < classical Latin monitōrius (see monitory n. and adj.) + -ālis -al suffix1. In subsequent use probably independently < classical Latin monitōrius + -al suffix1, in some senses (e.g. sense 2) after monitor n. Compare German monitorial (1620 or earlier).
