With use as adjective compare mollifying adj. and slightly earlier mollificative adj. With use as noun compare post-classical Latin mollitiva , plural (1363 in Chauliac: see quot. ?a1425 at sense B.), use as noun of neuter of mollitivus ; compare mollifying n. and slightly earlier mollificative n.
