Etymology: < mono- comb. form + -pathic comb. form, after monopathy n. (see sense 2 s.v.).R. G. Mayne gives a Latin form monopathicus (see quot. 1857). N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mǫnopæ·þik) /mɒnəʊˈpæθɪk/.
Medicine. Obsolete. rare.
Of a disease or disorder: affecting one organ or function.
