Cf. moko-moko n.2The name may in early use have been applied to the tui ( Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae), which is a mimic, and was formerly also called ‘bellbird’ ( Dict. N.Z. Eng. (1997)). In quot. 1940 it is not clear which name is intended to apply to which bird.
