Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French morbleu.
Etymology: < French morbleu (1664 in Molière; an altered form of mort Dieu (see mort dieu int.), after bleu blue adj. and n.; compare Middle French morbieu (c1480)). Compare parbleu int., sacré bleu at sacré adj.2
Chiefly humorous.

Expressing annoyance, surprise, etc. (usually attributed to French speakers). Cf. mort dieu int.
