Etymology: < Japanese moribana (1908 or earlier: see note) < mori- , combining stem of moru to pile up + -bana , combining form of hana flower. Compare earlier ikebana n.The style was developed by Unshin Ohara (1861–1914) in the 1890s or early 1900s. The form morihana is not paralleled in Japanese.

A Japanese style of flower arrangement, developed as a modern form of ikebana, in which flowers are displayed naturalistically in a shallow container or basin, often using a metal holder to keep the flowers in place; (also) such a container or basin.
