Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from Cornish.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps < an unattested Cornish compound < men stone (see menhir n.) + teg pretty (compare Welsh teg fair (13th cent.); further etymology uncertain).
Pyrites; esp. iron pyrites. Also with distinguishing word, usually an adjective of colour, denoting particular varieties.
