Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymon: Arabic murji'a.
Etymology: < Arabic murji'a, collective plural of murji', lit. ‘one who postpones’, active participle of arja'a postpone, defer (in reference to the belief that judgement on the ultimate destiny of grave sinners should be postponed until decided by God on the Day of Judgement).
Islam. Now historical.
With plural agreement. A Muslim politico-religious movement emerging during or shortly after 685–687 and later characterized mainly by according all genuine believers' faith in Islam primacy over their actions. Also †in plural.
