To form (a new word) from a component element of an existing word, typically by removing an ending or suffix; to create by a process of back-formation (back-formation n.). Often in passive, and frequently with from.Examples of back-formed words include the verbs emote (from emotion) and enthuse (from enthusiasm). ΚΠ 1911 V. Bladin Stud.
