Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: nacre n., -ous suffix.
Etymology: Probably originally < nacre n. + -ous suffix, but subsequently remodelled after -eous suffix (as reflected in the pronunciation). Compare later nacrous adj., nacry adj.
