Etymology: < post-classical Latin namation-, namatio (also namiatio ; from 13th cent. in British, chiefly Scottish, sources) < namat- , past participial stem of namare to distrain (see naam v.) + -io -ion suffix1.
Law. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
The act of taking another's goods by way of distraint. Cf. naam n.
