单词 mustee
释义

musteen.

Brit. /mʌˈstiː/, /mʌsˈtiː/, /ˈmʌstiː/, U.S. /məˈsti/, /ˈməsti/
Forms: 1600s– mustee, 1700s maesti, 1700s meste, 1700s musty, 1700s–1800s mestee, 1800s mesti, 1800s muster, 1800s musti, 1900s– mustée.
Origin: Formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymon: mestizo n.
Etymology: Shortened < mestizo n. (compare forms s.v.), perhaps arising by mistaken analysis of such plural forms as musteeses (1678). Compare musteefino n. N.E.D. (1908) enters this under the double headword mustee, mestee, and gives these forms the respective pronunciations (mɒstī·) /mʌˈstiː/ and (mestī·) /mɛˈstiː/.
Now chiefly historical.
A person of mixed European and African descent; (sometimes) spec. a person with one white-skinned parent and the other one-quarter black. Also more generally: a person of mixed racial descent. Frequently attributive.
