Etymology: < German Naphtyridin (A. Reissert 1893, in Berichte der Deutsch. Chem. Ges. 26 2137) < Naphta naphtha n. + Pyridin pyridine n., apparently with simplification of the resulting sequence of consonants -phtpyr-.

Any of several isomers with the formula C₈H₆N₂ whose structure is that of naphthalene with one carbon atom in each ring replaced by nitrogen; esp. the 1,8-isomer.
