Etymology: < classical Latin Naxius (adjective) or its etymon ancient Greek Νάξιος (adjective) of or belonging to the island of Naxos, (noun) an inhabitant of the island of Naxos ( < Νάξος, the name of a Greek island in the Cyclades group + -ιος, suffix forming adjectives) + -an suffix.
