Inflections: Plural Narodniki Brit. /nəˈrɒdnɪki/, U.S. /nəˈrɑdniki/, Narodniks.
Forms: also with lower-case initial.
Origin: A borrowing from Russian. Etymon: Russian narodnik.
Etymology: < Russian narodnik (second half of the 19th cent.) < narod people (see narod n.) + -nik -nik suffix. The word is found (as narodnik″) in the sense ‘member of the (common) people’ from the 11th–17th cent. in Old Russian sources, but there is no evidence that the Narodniki were consciously reviving this usage. The plural form Narodniki is after the Russian plural.
