Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French négoce.
Etymology: < Middle French, French négoce (c1200 in Old French as negosces in sense ‘occupations, affairs, interests’ (compare Anglo-Norman negoice affair, concern); 1617 in sense ‘commerce, business’) < classical Latin negōtium (see negotiate v.). Compare earlier negocy n.
Now historical and rare.
