Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on a Dutch lexical item. Etymons: Greek νόμος , -istic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek νόμος law (see nomos n.) + -istic suffix, after Dutch nomistisch (1876 in passage translated in quot 1877).
Esp. of religion: based on law; legalistic.
