Etymology: < nitch n. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation (nitʃ) /nɪtʃ/. N.E.D. also includes the following quot., in which however nitching may be a misprint for hitching (see hitch v.; it is unlikely to be related to Scots knitch to tie into a bundle: see Sc. National Dict. s.v.):1824 W. S. Landor Imaginary Conversat. I. xv. 274 One of the beauties at which Boileau aimed, was the nitching of several names together in a verse, without any other word.
Obsolete. rare.
transitive. To make a small cut or notch in; to nick.
