Etymology: < post-classical Latin abnegativus negative (5th cent.) < classical Latin abnegāt- , past participial stem of abnegāre abnegate v. + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare earlier abnegate v., abnegation n.
Of or relating to abnegation; that abnegates something; characterized by self-abnegation.In quot. 1778 as a grammatical term.
