Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: note v.2, -er suffix1.
Etymology: < note v.2 + -er suffix1, perhaps after Anglo-Norman notere or notur (see notary n.) or Middle French, French noteur (end of the 12th cent. in Old French in sense ‘secretary, recorder’, 16th cent. in sense ‘recorder of musical notation’).
