Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi bāp.
Etymology: < Hindi bāp < Prakrit bappa.
South Asian and Caribbean (chiefly Trinidad and Guyana).
A father. Frequently with possessive adjective. Also as a respectful form of address to one's father or (in Caribbean use) any older man, esp. one of South Asian descent. Cf. mai n.2
