Etymology: < oc- (in ocelot n.) + -i- connective + cat n.¹, punningly after ocelot n., on account of a supposed resemblance to the wild ocelot.

A breed of domestic cat which has a spotted coat somewhat resembling that of some wild cat species; a cat of this breed.

2010 Guardian 20 Mar. (Guide to Pets) 26/3 American shorthair cats were later added to the mix to get the ocicat we know today, the first being brought to Britain in 1988.
