Etymology: < classical Latin obtectus obtect adj. + -o- connective + venose adj. Compare earlier obtected adj., and later obtect adj. N.E.D. (1902) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ̆bte:ktovīnōu·s) /əbˌtɛktəʊviːˈnəʊs/.
Botany. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Designating a leaf having the principal and longitudinal veins connected by simple cross-veins.
