Etymology: < scientific Latin Ornithoscelida, former order name (T. H. Huxley 1870, in Q. Jrnl. Geol. Soc. 26 35; < ornitho- ornitho- comb. form + ancient Greek σκέλος leg (see scelides n.) + scientific Latin -ida : see -id suffix3) + -an suffix. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation of the final element as (-se·lidăn) /-ˈsɛlɪdən/.
Palaeontology. Obsolete.

An extinct reptile of the former order Ornithoscelida (T. H. Huxley's term for the superorder Dinosauria), having hind legs and a pelvic arch resembling those of a bird; a dinosaur.
