Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian orlo.
Etymology: < Italian orlo plinth under the base of a column (see orle n.). N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (ǭ·ɹlo) /ˈɔːləʊ/.
Architecture. Obsolete. rare.
1. The fillet under the ovolo of a capital.
