Etymology: < French oxalate (L. B. Guyton de Morveau et al. Méthode de nomencl. chim. (1787) 195; compare quot. 1788 at main sense) < oxal- (in oxalique oxalic adj.) + -ate -ate suffix1. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (ǫ·ksălĕt) /ˈɒksələt/.
Chemistry.
