Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek παράβλεψις looking askance at < ancient Greek παρα- para- prefix¹ + Hellenistic Greek βλέψις sight (see monoblepsis n.), after ancient Greek παραβλέπειν to look aside at, in Hellenistic Greek also to see wrong, to overlook. Compare earlier pseudoblepsis n. at pseudo- comb. form 2. Compare parablepsia n., parablepsy n.R. G. Mayne gives a Latin form parablepsis:1857 R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci.
