paramic acid n. an insoluble acid obtained by acidifying a solution of mellitimide.

1865 H. Watts Dict. Chem. III. 874 Paramic acid.—This name is given by Schwarz to a white crystalline precipitate obtained by dropping an ammoniacal solution of paramide into hydrochloric acid.
1892 H. F. Morley & M. M. P. Muir Watts' Dict. Chem. (rev. ed.) III. 201/1 An ammoniacal solution of paramide dropped into HClAq gives a white crystalline pp. called ‘paramic acid’ C12H5N3O7 (?).
