Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Paramylon.
Etymology: < German Paramylon (J. Gottlieb 1850, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 75 58) < para- para- prefix1 + Amylon starch ( < classical Latin amylum amyl n.1 + German -on -one suffix). Compare later paramylum n.
Biochemistry.
A polysaccharide occurring in granules as a reserve carbohydrate in certain flagellates and algae.
