Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Parseval.
Etymology: < the name of August von Parseval (1861–1942), German military engineer, who invented this type of airship. Compare Zeppelin n.Parseval began developing the airship in 1901 with H. B. von Sigsfeld. After Sigsfeld's death in 1902, work was interrupted until 1905. The airship was first launched in 1906.
Now historical.
A type of non-rigid dirigible German airship.

Etymology: < the name of Marc-Antoine Parseval des Chênes (1755–1836), French mathematician, who proposed the theorem in 1799 (published in 1806 in Mém. Inst. des Sci., Lettres et Arts: Sci. Math. et Physiques 1 639).

attributive and in the genitive. Designating (any of various forms of) a theorem which relates the integral of a product of two periodic functions to the sum of the products of their respective Fourier coefficients; spec. a form of the theorem in which the two periodic functions are taken to be equal, i.e. giving an expression for the integral of the square of a periodic function. Esp. in Parseval's formula, Parseval's theorem.
