单词 pas dâne
释义

pas d'ânen.

Brit. /pɑː ˈdan/, /ˈpa ˈdan/, U.S. /pɑ ˈdɑn/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pas d'âne.
Etymology: < French pas d'âne (1622 in this sense), literally ‘donkey's step’ (see note) < pas step (see pace n.1) + de de prep. + âne (10th cent. in Old French as asne ; < classical Latin asinus : see ass n.1).It is uncertain why the word should be used in this sense; one suggested explanation is that this is due to the supposed resemblance between the shape of the rings and the hoof-print of a donkey.
Fencing. Now historical.
Two rings below the cross guard of a sword for protecting the hand and fingers.
