Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish pasillo.
Etymology: < South American Spanish pasillo (19th cent.), specific use of Spanish pasillo hallway, corridor (1538) < paso (see paso n.) + -illo , diminutive suffix (compare -illa suffix).
A folk dance of Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama, descended from the waltz. A piece of music for this dance or in its rhythm; (also) the dance rhythm itself.
