Etymology: < pect- (in classical Latin pecten pecten n.) + classical Latin -unculus (see -uncle suffix) + -ate suffix2. Compare classical Latin pectunculus pectuncle n. Compare earlier pectinate adj.2, pectinated adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciation (pektɒ·ŋkiŭlĕt) /pɛkˈtʌŋkjʊlət/.
Entomology. rare.
Having a row of minute spines or bristles; finely pectinate.
