Origin: Of multiple origins. A borrowing from Persian. Partly also a borrowing from Italian. Etymons: Persian pād-zahr; Italian pazar.
Etymology: < Persian pād-zahr bezoar n., originally via Italian pazar (1558 in the passage translated in quot. 1563 at sense 1). Compare French pazar (1565, in a later edition of the work translated in quot. 1563 at sense 1, or earlier), Portuguese pazar (1563 or earlier: see pasang n.).
Obsolete.
1. The bezoar stone, or an antidote to poison prepared from it; = bezoar n. 1, 2.
