Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Pentamerus , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Pentamerus (see pentameral adj.1) + -oid suffix. Compare scientific Latin Pentameroidea, superfamily name (C. Schuchert & G. A. Cooper (1931) in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. 22 247, originally as suborder name).
Palaeontology.
A. adj.
Of or relating to the extinct superfamily Pentameroidea or family Pentameridae of articulate brachiopods having roughly pentagonal shells, known from fossils of Ordovician to Devonian age.
