单词 pentamerous
释义

pentamerousadj.

Brit. /pɛnˈtam(ə)rəs/, U.S. /pɛnˈtæmərəs/
Forms: also (in sense 2) represented by the abbreviation 5-merous.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: penta- comb. form, -merous comb. form.
Etymology: < penta- comb. form + -merous comb. form, after French pentamère (Cuvier Règne animal (1817) III. 173, as noun denoting a beetle with tarsi composed of five segments; compare earlier †pentaméré (adjective) in C. Duméril Zoologie analytique (1806) 192). Compare Hellenistic Greek πενταμερής having five parts ( < ancient Greek πεντα- penta- comb. form + -μερής : see -mere comb. form), and perhaps classical Latin pentamerīs, although this form is based on editorial conjecture. With the form 5-merous compare later five-merous adj.
