Etymology: < post-classical Latin perspicacia insight, discernment (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. in Tertullian; frequently c1125–1620 in British sources) < classical Latin perspicāc- , perspicāx discerning (see perspicacious adj.) + -ia -y suffix3; compare -acy suffix. Compare earlier perspicacity n.
rare after 17th cent.
= perspicacity n.In quot. 1963 probably an error for perspicacity.
