Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French phorésie.
Etymology: < French phorésie (P. Lesne 1896, in Bull. de la Soc. Entomol. de France 164) < Hellenistic Greek ϕόρησις being carried (see -phoresis comb. form); compare -sy suffix1.In form phoresie after French phorésie.
Zoology.
An association between two organisms in which one is carried on the body of the other, without being a parasite.
