Origin: A borrowing from Swedish. Etymon: Swedish fosforist.
Etymology: < Swedish fosforist (1810) < the name of Fosforos , the magazine in which the writers published their work (1810–3; compare phosphorus n.) + -ist -ist suffix.

A member of a school of Swedish Romantic and nationalistic writers which flourished at the beginning of the 19th cent.
