Etymology: < pis- (in scientific Latin pisum) + sat- (in scientific Latin sativum) + -in suffix1, after scientific Latin Pisum sativum, taxonomic name of the pea plant ( < classical Latin pisum pea (see pease n.) + satīvus sative adj.).
Biochemistry.
A crystalline heterocyclic carbohydrate, C17H14O6, produced by the pea plant as a fungitoxic phytoalexin.
