1886 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 50 455 By the oxidation of phthalic alcohol with chromic mixture, a thick, viscid oil is obtained containing phthalaldehyde, phthalide, and unaltered phthalic alcohol. All attempts to isolate phthalaldehyde from this mixture were fruitless.
