Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pilositas.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pilositas hairness (from late 12th cent. in British sources; perhaps earlier in an undated glossary in Thesaurus Linguae Latinae) < classical Latin pilōsus hairy (see pilose adj.) + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Middle French, French pilosité (15th cent. in isolated attestations; subsequently from first half of 19th cent.).
The quality or state of being covered with hair; hairiness.
