单词 pincern
释义

pincernn.

Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pincerna.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pincerna cup-bearer (Vulgate) < Byzantine Greek πιγκέρνης cup-bearer, properly a wine-mixer < ancient Greek πίνειν to drink ( < the same Indo-European base as classical Latin bibere to drink: see bever n.) + κεραννύναι to mix (see crater n.). Compare Middle French pincerne butler (a c1532), Italian pincerna (first half of the 14th cent.; now archaic).Earlier currency of the word is perhaps implied by the surname Robert Pincern (1153).
Obsolete (archaic in later use).
A cup-bearer.
